Pros & Cons of using cast / steel / sinter C1 / sinter pad / organic lining
Pressure plate / Intermediate plate made of steel
Advantage: Minimal distortion (shielding of friction surface) in extreme temperatures compared to cast iron
Drawback: Higher economical value than cast iron plates
Pressure plate / Intermediate plate made of cast iron
Advantage: Cheaper alternative to steel plates
Drawback: Not as free of distortion as the steel option
Sintered material C1
Advantage: More resistant to wear (higher durability). Can also be used in higher temperatures, due to molding material (coarse grained), low mass and inertia
Sinter Pad
Advantage: Sinter pad offers high wear range and is often used in applications where there are numerous starts. High wear volume, high temperature resistance, long operational life
Organic lining
Advantage: Organic is a soft friction material and therefore protects the geartbox, but not very temperature resistant. Organic material is not used in racing conditions. Offers soft clutch engagement, low wear on the flywheel friction surface.
