Sachs has been development partner to Ferrari since 1996. The constructor has been relying on the weight-optimized Formula dampers from Sachs since 1997. Thanks to ongoing development, the necessary construction space and the weight could always be reduced from season to season. Ferrari consistently depends on the fixed variants of the Formula dampers, which are specially tuned for each race with simulation calculations bench tests and vehicle inspections. Thanks to the wealth of experience coming from both partners and their successful collaboration in the last few years, it has been possible to establish a very precise damper tuning before a race.
The development collaboration on the clutch side dates back to 1996, when Ferrari began using Sachs Formula Carbon clutches in races. That year and in 1997, a 130mm Carbon clutch was used. Since then, and with the help of numerous vehicle tests with Scuderia, various improvements were made, leading to the currently used (in testing) variant, a 97mm Carbon clutch with an outer diameter of just 111mm.
