Formula 1: Podium finish for Ferrari in rain chaos

Felipe Massa driving a Ferrari clinched second place and more important points in the fight for the driver’s title at the turbulent tenth round of the Formula 1 season.

The European Grand Prix was influenced by heavy rainfall just after the start and a few laps before the chequered flag and, as a result, ensured that conditions were extremely difficult to judge. Despite the adverse conditions Massa - whose Ferrari is equipped with ZF Sachs Race Engineering dampers - led the majority of the race, before having to surrender his lead to rival Fernando Alonso after having to make an unscheduled pit-stop due to the rain.

Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica finished in sixth and seventh positions respectively and scored points with the two BMW-Saubers, in which dampers from Schweinfurt are also used.

ALMS: Sachs partner Porsche in victory-lane again at Mid Ohio

Porsche continued its winning streak in the ALMS. Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard in the factory Porsche RS Spyder, equipped with ZF Sachs Race Engineering dampers and clutches, headed home a Porsche one-two to claim the fifth overall victory for an LM P2 Sportscar in the seventh round of the season. It was the third victory for Dumas/Bernhard in 2007 and, following last year’s win at Mid Ohio, the second in succession. The duo waged a thrilling battle with the sister car driven by Sascha Maassen and Ryan Briscoe, which finished on their tale in second position.

The Audi R10 TDI, in which a high-tech clutch from Schweinfurt is used, once again dominated the LM P1 class. In the overall standings at Mid Ohio, the Audi team of Emanuele Pirro and Marco Werner crossed the finish line a little more than 15 seconds behind the overall winner.
