DTM: Second place and lead in the standings for Mattias Ekström

After a turbulent sixth round of the season Mattias Ekström took the lead in the DTM standings.

The Swede, whose Audi A4 DTM is equipped with a high-tech clutch from ZF Sachs Race Engineering, finished as the runner-up behind Mika Häkkinen (Mercedes). The winner benefited from a safety car phase, prior to which he had already performed both of his two pit stops. Hence the dominant pole sitter Ekström dropped behind Häkkinen.

Audi was not able to profit a great deal from the best DTM qualifying result in the company’s history, in which the brand had captured the top five grid positions. Besides Ekström, only Mike Rockenfeller, Alex Prémat and Tom Kristensen - finishing in sixth to eighth place, respectively - scored points. Martin Tomczyk and Timo Scheider – both having started from the first two rows – retired. The next round of the season will take place two weeks from now at Zandvoort/the Netherlands.
